Singapore’s Food Stall Destination: Maxwell Road Hawker Centre

Maxwell Road Hawker Centre has over 100 stalls, providing one of the biggest varieties of local food in Singapore. It is located in the heart of Chinatown. Even with the influx of vendors, the stalls’ offerings are very varied and you will easily spoil for choice here. Here are 5 stalls that you have to try:
1.    Tian Tian Chicken Rice

Tian Tian Chicken Rice

This is one of Singapore’s most famous chicken rice stall in Singapore. It is warm, fluffy, fragrant and tasty. You can add with the chili sauce.

2.    Zhen Zhen Porridge

Zhen Zhen Porridge

If you like your porridge thick and dense, cooked with broken grains instead of whole rice, you would find Zhen Zhen’s porridge pleasurable. It consists of chicken meat (or fish slices) and century egg, and other peripherals of spring onion, shallots and chopped preserved vegetables. That made the porridge un-plain and exciting to eat.

3.    Black Pepper Char Siew Rice & Noodles

Black Pepper Char Siew Rice & Noodles

This is very close to the styled served in Hong Kong, with springy wanton noodles topped with thickly sliced char siew and leafy kai lan. Owner Mr. Lim explained that thick cut of the roast meat is to let customers enjoy the meat’s succulence and tenderness better.

4.    Special Shanghai Dim- Sum

Special Shanghai Dim- Sum

Special Shanghai Dim- Sum is better known as “that dumping stall from Queenstown”, and has since relocated to Maxwell. It is thick, eggy and only slightly spicy, reeking of simple home- cooked goodness.

5.    Jin Hua Sliced Fish Bee Hoon

Jin Hua Sliced Fish Bee Hoon

Jin Hua prepares Cantonese style fish head beehoon soup, and its selling point is in its hot piping milk fish broth. At $4 per bowl, this comes with a few chinks of fried fish, which tastes really succulent and yummy when it absorbs all the thick soup.  The thick vermicelli is interesting thinner, and cooked more al dente than the usual.

Maxwell Road Hawker Centre is really the food centre of Singapore. Come and taste your favorite foods.
