The Royal St George's Golf Club (England): Another Place to Stay and Play

Royal St George’s Golf Club is one of the world’s great courses located in Sandwich, Kent, England. It is one of the premier golf clubs in the United Kingdom. The club was established in 1887 in a setting of wild dune land. Designed by William Laidlaw Purves, it has constantly evolved to pose a tough test for championship and more modest players alike. In common with many links, it is characterized by humps and swales, dunes and wild rough, fast-running fairways and deep bunkers.

It is famous as and one of the courses on The Open Championship rotation. Since 1894, it has hosted the Open Championship 14 times when it became the first club outside Scotland to host the championship. It was started in 1894, 1899, 1904, 1911, 1922, 1928, 1934, 1938, 1949, 1981, 1985, 1993, 2003 and the last in 2011.
